Mercado Libre’s progress made to generate a reliable and transparent digital environment: increase in the proactive detection of irregular listings

October 2023.- Mercado Libre presents its new Transparency Report with data from the first half of 2023. Every six months, the Transparency Report provides an overview of the results based on four key areas: law enforcement inquiries in the different countries where it operates, the response rate to listings in violation of the company’s Terms and Conditions, intellectual property rights and personal data protection.

KEY DATA OF 2023 JANUARY-JUNE REPORT

●  Several law enforcement authorities request Mercado Libre to provide user registration data or information on transactions carried out on the platform. During the reported period, more than 39,000 requests were received, of which 97% were met with the required information.

●  Only 0.74% of the more than 614 million active listings during the semester (over 50,942,715 more than in the previous period) were removed due to violation of the Terms and Conditions. Of the publications removed, 98.33% were detected by Mercado Libre's own teams and systems. Compared to the previous Transparency Report, the efficiency of detection by Mercado Libre's systems increased by 2%.

●   The Brand Protection Program (BPP) is an exclusive program for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) holders to report infringement listings. Mercado Libre has automated tools based on AI and machine learning that feed from IPR holders' reports to identify patterns that are repeated in the reported listings in order to remove other infringing listings. In the reported period, 699,858 Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) claims were filed, representing 0.11% of the total active listings offered during this period. In turn, during the same period, Mercado Libre proactively detected 3,303,995 infringing listings, representing 87% of the total number of listings removed for IPR infringement.

●  Privacy regulations guarantees users’ control over their personal data. In this period, 1,003,307 privacy rights were exercised, 82% of which were processed automatically thanks to the Privacy Hub, making it easier for users to exercise these rights, while providing them with a faster response.
