At 80, Madame Lydia was as formidable an advocate of Matisse's art as ever, and the lucidity of an extraordinary beauty remained under the veil of frailty. All went well, very well -until I heard myself claim, too proudly, that the exhibition would be the most comprehensive ever, with more than 400 works.
