When the American family Mr. Otis, his wife, and their four children settle into Canterville Chase, they are forewarned by Lord Canterville that the ghost of his ancestor haunts the premises. Amidst these supernatural occurrences, Virginia, the Otises' daughter, befriends the ghost and uncovers the sorrowful story of his past.
