“Poetry is braver than anyone,” Roberto Bolan~o believed, and the evidence is in Tres, his inventive and stimulating poetry collection. Tres showcases Bolan~o’s ability to cross genres, with poems in prose, stories in verse, and writing that defies easy categorization. The collection is composed of three sections. “Prose from Autumn in Gerona” offers a series of prose poems that weave an emotional tale of unrequited love by deconstructing and reconstructing each scene repeatedly. “The Neochileans” takes readers on a journey akin to On the Road in verse, chronicling the adventures of a young Chilean band touring their homeland. The book concludes with “A Stroll Through Literature,” a series of short poems that highlight Bolan~o’s skill in balancing the comically serious with the seriously comical.

Roberto Bolan~o (1953-2003), author of 2666 and other acclaimed works, was born in Santiago, Chile, and lived in Mexico, Paris, and Spain. He received numerous prestigious awards and was considered a leading Latin American writer of his generation. His oeuvre includes nine novels, two story collections, and five books of poetry. Bolan~o passed away in July 2003 at the age of 50.
